Dynamic Adjustments for Horses

Dr. Ely’s Unique Approach to Assessing Equine Movement in Real Time
Dynamic adjustments are Dr. Ely’s unique approach to equine chiropractic care, developed through her experience as both an animal chiropractor and rider. She offers this service across Durham Region, York Region, Simcoe County, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, and Peterborough County. This approach allows assessment and treatment of the horse both at rest and in motion, allowing us to identify issues that may not be visible during a traditional static assessment.
By observing how the horse moves under saddle, we can better understand how the body responds to the rider, equipment, and activity—and adjust treatment accordingly.

What Are Dynamic Adjustments?
Dynamic adjustments are part of Dr. Ely’s approach to chiropractic care, focusing on assessing the horse not only at rest, but also in motion. By observing how the horse moves under saddle, we can identify issues that may not be visible during a traditional static assessment.
This allows for a potentially deeper understanding of how the horse’s body responds to the rider, equipment, and activity—leading to more targeted and effective treatment.

Why Dynamic Adjustments Matter
Some issues only appear when the horse is in motion. This approach helps uncover these hidden patterns and provide a more complete picture of how the horse is functioning.
This approach is especially helpful for:
Performance issues
Behavioural concerns under saddle
Stubborn or unresolved conditions
Post-injury recovery
Training-related challenges
What to Expect During a Dynamic Session
A dynamic session using Dr. Ely’s approach is more involved than a standard visit and includes both assessment and treatment in motion.
1.
Initial Assessment
We begin with a standard chiropractic assessment and treatment while the horse is at rest.
2.
Under Saddle Evaluation
The horse is then tacked up and worked under saddle so we can observe movement in real time.
3.
Targeted Adjustments
Based on what we see, additional adjustments are made to address specific movement patterns or restrictions.
4.
Ongoing Recommendations
Exercises, training adjustments, or follow-up care may be recommended to support continued improvement.
Sessions typically require additional time and planning to ensure a thorough evaluation.

How Horses Respond to Dynamic Adjustments
Because this approach addresses movement in real time, many horses show noticeable improvements in both comfort and performance. Riders often report better responsiveness under saddle, smoother movement, and reduced compensation patterns.
In many cases, behavioural changes are also observed as the horse becomes more comfortable and balanced.
A Unique Perspective in Equine Care
What sets this approach apart is the combination of clinical expertise and real-world riding experience. Dr. Fenella Ely has ridden across multiple disciplines, including English and Western riding, giving her a deep understanding of how horses move and perform.
This allows her to assess not only the horse, but also the influence of the rider, equipment, and training—helping determine whether an issue stems from the horse itself or external factors. This approach has been developed by Dr. Ely through years of clinical experience and hands-on riding across multiple disciplines.
